Virtual port mode of SAN concept is captured below in separate link. Step1: Assign an alias for each WWPN syntax follows,Ĭreate alias to identify the WWPN targets easily, Physical or Virtual ports. Alias is a logical group of a single WWPN or a number of WWPN’s. WWPN number is not easy to remember, to reduce complexity and avoid error we create and “Alias” for each WWPN or a group of WWPN’s. This helps us to create the alias for WWN with more details and very helpful during troubleshooting in future. Storage has 2 x HBA cards with 4 ports, will divide this like Controller1, Slot2 of HBA & port1. We will use this WWPN of the connecting device to zone with another. It can be a storage array, HBA port or another switch. The 10:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX that you see above is the WWPN of the device connecting in that port. Switchshow command provides all target ports WWN. Refer below image for connectivity and standards (Figure1).įigure1: Storage and host targets connectivity to SAN switch This helps to easily find the storage targets and host targets physically and using WWN numbers. Block first 1-10 ports for storage and connect the storage targets, From 11-48 ports can be used for host targets and label the ports/cables physically. Prepare the environment and connections with few basic standards before you start the configuration. When target is connected to the switch and you can see the WWN numbers of each targets in the switch.

There are two methods to configure zoning in Brocade Switches. Brocade switches comes with 24 ports, 48 ports & 96 ports with speed of 8G, 16G & 32G.
